License Testing

2017 Licensing Testing Schedule

Test Dates

  • Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

Tests are administered at the main Fire Marshal’s Office located at 560 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI 02886 unless otherwise specified. Please arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. the morning of the test for registration and payment.

Candidates must present a valid photo ID. Journeymen and blaster candidates must also present a current license from another state or an apprentice license from the State of Rhode Island prior to taking the test.

Prerequisite

Candidates for journeyman and blaster licenses must be licensed in another state or be an apprentice in Rhode Island for the required amount of time.

Test Applications

A completed application must be received by the Fire Marshal’s Office at least one week prior to the test date. The following applications can be found on this website under the “forms” section:

  • "Application Extinguishing Equip. Journeymen License"
  • "Application for License to Conduct Blasting Operations"
  • "Application for Fireworks/Pyrotechnic License"

Fees

Test Fee: There is a $10.00 test fee (the hydrostatic test is free). DO NOT send the payment with your test application. Test fees will be collected the morning of the test. Personal checks and cash are NOT accepted.

License Fee: You will be contacted regarding your test score. Those who pass the test must set up an appointment to have their license photo taken, at which time a $50.00 license fee will be collected.
