Assistant Deputy/NFPA 1031 Certification Program

Date: All day from to

Location: Rhode Island Fire Academy

The program is scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 4th, 2024 and continue through Friday, October 18th, 2024. Classes will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 0930 to 1500 hours at the Rhode Island Fire Academy.

Registration will be limited to 25 individuals.  Those who are assigned the primary responsibility of enforcing the fire codes will be given priority during registration.  If additional seats are available, individuals who will eventually be assigned the responsibility of code enforcement will be considered. Please check the appropriate box on the registration form. As in the past, the Chief of the Department must sign all applications. Certification will not be issued without prior approval from each Chief of Department and the State Fire Marshal.

The Office of State Fire Marshal does not charge for this training. Once notified of acceptance into the class, students will need the 2018 NFPA Code set: NFPA 1 (2018 ed), 13 (2016 ed), 25 (2017 ed), 72 (2016 ed) and 101 (2018 ed) and the IFSTA Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement Manual (8th ed). It is important to have these books before the training begins.

Students will also need to take the NFPA Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) computer-based certification test after the completion of the class. The NFPA charges a $399 fee for the certification exam and $200 for the above code books when ordered in conjunction with the CFI test. The total fee for the test and materials is to be paid directly to NFPA along with the CFI application.  More information regarding the NFPA CFI program can be found at: https://www.nfpa.org/Training-and-Events/Certification/Certification/Certified-Fire-Inspector-I
