About The Fire Academy

The Rhode Island State Fire Academy serves the training needs of Rhode Island's 6,000 firefighters. The Fire Academy provides basic and advanced training in various disciplines. Some of this training is conducted using a state-of-the-art live burn building. The Rhode Island State Fire Academy is ProBoard accredited by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.

Mission

The mission of the Rhode Island State Fire Training Academy is to provide coordinated education and training to the fire service of Rhode Island, to promote and enhance firefighter safety, and to develop and provide high quality training programs.

Director Mark S. Pare

About Director Pare

Director Mark S. Pare is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, policy implementation, and direction of the Rhode Island Fire Training Academy. He is responsible for maintaining the ProBoard Certification for the Academy and serves as the liaison between the Fire Academy and Rhode Island’s Fire Service.

Prior to his current position, Director Pare was the Operations Section Chief for the Department of Fire Services in Massachusetts and served as Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Fire Academy. He served the with City of Providence’s Fire Department from 1979 to 2008, retiring as the Assistant Chief of Administration.

Director Pare is a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. Director Pare also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Anna Maria College. While serving with the Providence Fire Department, was awarded the Providence Fire Department’s Heroic Action 2nd Class Medal.
