NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations

Location: Rhode Island Fire Academy

This program provides students with extensive time on rope, giving skills and confidence needed to handle basic rope rescues and slope evacuations.  This 5-day program includes 4 days of instruction and one day of written & skill evaluation.  Topic areas include: site operations, size-up, resource management, hazard/risk assessment, ground support for helicopter ops, triage, incident management, rope construction, knots, harnesses, hardware, anchoring methods, belay systems, mechanical advantage & pickoffs as addressed in NFPA 1006.

Prerequisites:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • RIFA Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form
  • Current EMT license or EMR certification
  • Proof of Firefighter I/II and Hazmat Operations level

PPE Requirements:

  • Fire or rescue style helmet
  • Work boots
  • Clean, leather palm gloves

Required Textbook:

  • CMC Rope Rescue Technician Manual (6th edition)
