NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations
This program provides students with extensive time on rope, giving skills and confidence needed to handle basic rope rescues and slope evacuations. This 5-day program includes 4 days of instruction and one day of written and skill evaluation. Topic areas include: site operations, size-up, resource management, hazard/risk assessment, ground support for helicopter ops, triage, incident management, rope construction, knots, harnesses, hardware, anchoring methods, belay systems, mechanical advantage & pickoffs as addressed in NFPA 1006.
This course prepares students for the RIFA Rope Technician program, as well as the Pro Board certification exam for Rope Operations Level. After successful completion of this program, students may participate in the Pro Board certification exam held on the final day of the program.
Prerequisites:
- Firefighter II
- Current EMT or EMR license
PPE Requirements:
- Rescue style helmet (or fire helmet)
- Work boots or ankle supporting style shoes
- Clean, leather palm gloves
