This program provides students with extensive time on rope, giving skills and confidence needed to handle basic rope rescues and slope evacuations. This 5-day program includes 4 days of instruction and one day of written & skill evaluation.



Topic areas include site operations, size-up, resource management, hazard/risk assessment, ground support for helicopter ops, triage, incident management, rope construction, knots, harness, hardware, anchoring methods, belay systems, mechanical advantage, ascending/descending and pickoffs as addressed in NFPA 1006.

 

Prerequisites:

  • 18 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Rhode Island fire service member
  • Completed RIFA Accident Waiver
  • Firefighter I/II and Hazmat Operations Level
  • Current EMT or EMR license

Required Materials:

  • Hudson & Vines - High Angle Rope Rescue Techniques, 4th Edition
